Milton Keynes to Bedford
This stretch of the Ouse Valley Way begins with some road-walking then cuts across fields back towards the river. You’ll be passing through Emberton Country Park before skirting around historic Olney (It's well worth taking a diversion from the route into the town centre if you have time) and walking through the pretty village of Newton Blossomville.

At Turvey, The Ouse Valley Way crosses into Bedfordshire. Between here and Bedford, the river winds in a great loop northwards around a number of peaceful villages, then south down towards Kempston on the outskirts of Bedford. Although much of this stretch takes you away from the river bank because of the threat of winter flooding, this is a lovely and historically fascinating stretch of the Ouse Valley.

The area around Sharnbrook was the inspiration for H E Bates’ stories of the loveable rogue “My Uncle Silas”; the walk passes by Stevington’s ancient market cross, weaving its way through gently undulating countryside towards Bromham Bridge. A riverside walk around the Ouse’s Biddenham Loop brings you briefly to a new housing estate, before joining the river again and following a towpath which leads directly to the heart of Bedford town.
