Boudoir photography has appeared on the front pages of glamorous fashion magazines for years. We are all familiar with photographs of gorgeous partially undressed fashion models or celebrities. But, boudoir photograph can be a photo of any women – your wife, girlfriend or fiancée, or your own, taken in a romantic setting, in a sexy lingerie or nude. Interestingly, boudoir photography fashion gained popularity as brides-to-be wanted to give a very special gift to their future husbands. Or, very often, wives wanted to send their sexy photos to their husbands serving their countries in distant wars or working overseas.

The key is in good taste

To make a clear distinction between porn and nude art, the boudoir photo has to be in a very good taste. The best nude photos are not actually showing much and are often taken from the side or from behind, under an unusual angle, in a discrete lighting or with a strategically placed piece of clothing. It is a good idea to browse some photography books before attempting to take your first nude photo, to get an idea of possible angles that would show your wife or girlfriend from the best angle.

The lighting is very important. Mute lighting would create a moody, romantic photo and glaring, strong light would only enhance every blemish.

Make the background very simple. A velvet curtain or satin bedding in dark colors would provide neutral background and enhance the contours of the body.

Once your photographs are on your computer, look for ways to take parts of photos that look most artistic and show your model at her best. Just a glimpse of a back or a leg can be more erotic than frontal nudity.

Try making your photos black and white. For some reason, black and white photos always look more artistic than the color photographs.

Play with photo software like Photoshop to see what different effects you can get from your photos. Crackles, frescoes, mosaics and many other effects can turn your photo into a totally unexpected art form.

Since your plan was from the beginning to print your nude photos on canvas, use the highest resolution your camera is capable of. No phone camera will do. This is particularly important if you want your photos enlarged. The larger the photo, the more grainy it will be if your resolution is not high. If they are professional, they will allow you to bring your own props, or bring a friend as a support, and will give you a DVD with all your photos.
