SAFETY FIRST

Enjoy walking the Ouse Valley Way but please be aware of the following:

The walk should not be attempted if it is flooded or at risk from flooding.

Dogs are welcome on the route but please keep them under control or on a lead particularly around cattle, sheep and horses.

Never be tempted to swim in the locks or gravel pits – they are dangerous and deep.

Wear strong, waterproof footwear, the routes can be wet and muddy, especially in winter

Avoid contact with river water – you may be at risk from Weil’s disease or the water may be affected by blue-green algae.

Watch out for Giant Hogweed which looks a bit like a much bigger version of Cow Parsley and can cause serious rashes if there is direct contact with the skin.
